2011 Russian River Syrah

Saralee's Vineyard

Cool climate Syrah is a wonderful expression of the more elegant side of Syrah. Though Russian River Valley is dominated by Pinot Noir, its warm days and cool foggy nights provide a perfect growing environment for Syrah achieving a perfect balance of ripeness and acidity.
The 2011 vintage was one of the most challenging in decades for Russian River, cold, reduced sunlight, late ripening and mildew and rain pressure made it a nail biting harvest, but the end result was worth the hard work and perseverance. This is the one of the few Saralee’s Vineyard designate Syrah made, enjoy!
This release was hand selected from portions of 2 barrels, each contributing a unique element. One had viognier skins from a recent pressing added to the fermenter to add a slight lift in aroma and body, Cote Rotie style. The other had a small amount of whole cluster berries and stems.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A tribute to Syrah of the Northern Rhone, low in alcohol, balanced, approachable, reminiscent of Saint Joseph. On the nose classic aromas of smoked meat, bacon fat, savory notes, and white pepper. On the palate you experience soft red and black fruit, with good acidity, balanced structure, and a clean finish.
